Surah Name: An-Nahl Meaning: The Bee

  • Revealed at Makkah
  • This Surah, also revealed in Makkah, carries on the discussion initiated in the preceding Surah, extending it to the evidence or the inevitability of the Day of Judgement. It also presents the various creations of Allah-SWT as testimony to His-SWT Unity: amongst them the honeybee has been especially mentioned. This is why the Surah is named An-Nahl.

bismillah

إِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَالَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةٌ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Ilahukum ilahun wahidun fa(a)llatheena la yuminoona bi(a)lakhirati quloobuhum munkiratun wahum mustakbiroon(a)

Allah-SWT of you all is One Allah-SWT; so those who do not believe in Akhirah-their hearts are perverse and they are stiff-necked.

(16:22)

لاَ جَرَمَ أَنَّ اللّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ إِنَّهُ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

La jarama anna Allaha yaAAlamu ma yusirroona wama yuAAlinoona innahu layuhibbu almustakbireen(a)

Allah-SWT undoubtedly Knows what they keep secret and what they want to make known; verily he loves not the stiff-necked.

(16:23)

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَا أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ قَالُواْ أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ

Waitha qeela lahum matha anzala rabbukum qaloo asateeru alawwaleen(a)

And when it is said to them: what is it that your Rabb-SWT has sent down? They say: fables of the ancient.

(16:24)

لِيَحْمِلُواْ أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ الَّذِينَ يُضِلُّونَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ أَلاَ سَاء مَا يَزِرُونَ

Liyahmiloo awzarahum kamilatan yawma alqiyamati wamin awzari allatheena yudilloonahum bighayri AAilmin ala saa ma yaziroon(a)

As a result they will bear their loads in full on the Day of Judgement and some of the loads of those whom they have led astray without any knowledge. Lo! Vile is the load they shall bear!

SECRETS OF REVELATION:

When the Creator and the Sustainer of such a vast universe is One, certainly He-SWT Alone is worthy of worship. And all those who do not believe in His-SWT Unity have depraved Qulub, drenched in disbelief.

 

The Health and Illness of Qalb

Becoming heedless of Allah-SWT's Magnificence and associating hopes with others that is polytheism is indeed the most fatal disease from which a human Qalb can suffer. On the contrary its health is indicated by love for Allaah-SWT . So when the Qalb is afflicted, the person becomes arrogant, as shown by the conduct of the disbelievers. And undoubtedly Allaah-SWT Knows each and every thing about them, all that they do overtly or covertly. Let it be known that Allaah-SWT never approves of the arrogant. They not only have gone astray themselves but when someone asks them what has been revealed, they simply dismiss it calling it a collection of fables repeated through times by different people claiming Prophethood. In this way they misguide people and add the burden of their misguidance to that of their own sins. This load, which they are accumulating so ignorantly, is indeed loathsome.
